The latest drought monitor was released early Thursday, and it’s not as good as we’d like to see, but not as bad as it could be.

South Carolina fared well with only a one-tenth of a percent change in Abnormally Dry conditions, going from 63.7% of the state experiencing Abnormally Dry conditions to 63.8%. The state continues to remain free of the first phase of drought, Moderate drought.

Virginia didn’t fare quite as well. While the Abnormally Dry conditions went down a smidge from 85.9% last week to 85.7% this week, the first phase of drought, Moderate drought increased almost a full percentage point from 37.4% to 38.1%.

North Carolina fared the best with no change in either percentage of Abnormally Dry conditions or Moderate Drought conditions, both remaining at 78.8% and 13.2% respectively.
