YOUR TRUSTED AGRICULTURE SOURCE IN THE CAROLINAS SINCE 1974

SC Commissioner Weathers: SC AgriWellness

Farmers face a lot of challenges, and they aren’t always good about asking for help. Let’s talk about a program in South Carolina that may help see people through dark times.

The SC AgriWellness program offers free counseling services for farmers and farm families.

This is a partnership between Clemson Extension, SC Farm Bureau, our agency, and FirstSun EAP.

FirstSun EAP’s staff have participated in Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service’s Farm Stress Awareness training to better understand the issues South Carolina farmers may face.

In a survey conducted by American Farm Bureau, 91% of farmers cited financial issues as a significant stressor on mental health.

The culture of agriculture is very self sufficient. This can make it hard for some farmers to ask for help.

Counseling services may address mental health, financial planning, legal advice, elder and adult care, healthy lifestyle coaching, child and family needs, and more.

We recently created a video to highlight the SC AgriWellness service.

  • The video features farmers and farm families who have actually used the hotline.
  • You can view it on our SCDA social media channels.
