Cool, wet winters in the Midwest and drier conditions in the South are in the forecast for 2026. This means soybean growers need to be prepared for disease, stress or whatever the season brings. Brian Norton, an agronomy service representative with Syngenta, explains why growers need a seed treatment they can trust to take their yield to the next level – no matter the conditions.
“Saltro delivers upgraded Sudden Death Syndrome protection, strong nematode activity, and suppression of red crown rot, which is a new soil-borne disease that we’re experiencing here in Missouri and across the Midwest. But it does that with Syngenta’s MagniSafe technology, which actually boosts root and shoot mass, even in low-disease pressure environments, leading to healthier beans, meaning stronger stands, faster canopy closure, and better nutrient uptake supporting full-season yield potential.”
Norton says Saltro delivers enhanced crop establishment and plant-health benefits through MagniSafe technology, and this means Saltro helps soybeans emerge stronger and recover from stress faster.
“It’s the size of a plant’s root system is very important. I think of it a lot like an inverted funnel that feeds the plant. The bigger the funnel, the more food source available to that plant. This is extremely important in soybeans, as they create nodules on the root system that fix nitrogen that’s needed by the plant. So, a bigger root system leads to more area for more nitrogen production. MagniSafe technology helps soybeans recover faster from tough early-season conditions. A lot of times we think about that as being soil-borne pests, but it might be weather conditions, and in some cases, can actually include our aggressive herbicide program. MagniSafe technology promotes bigger roots and shoots supporting that stand health and early-season vigor, which is needed, then to lead into quicker canopy closure. A healthier start means beans are better-equipped to handle stress and keep growing strong.”
Growers see a synergistic benefit when they apply Saltro, followed by Tendovo herbicide, which helps soybeans grow faster and stronger both below and above ground.
“Starting with Saltro and following up with Tendovo was a winning combination, a one-two punch against pests, so to speak, Saltro protecting against soil-borne pests, maximizing its root health of the soybean plant, and Tendovo protecting against early-season weeds, yet doing it safely to the plant. Beans get a healthy, protected start, supporting stronger stands, faster canopy closure, and better yield potential. In fields starting with Saltro, followed by Tendovo, we’ve seen up to 34,000 more plants per acre than our competition, promoting stronger overall stands that close the row faster for shading effect. Cruiser Maxx APX plus Saltro, followed by Tendovo, delivered a 3.7-bushel yield advantage over our competitive offerings.”
