MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. (NCN News) — The Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Air Show begins May 9 and will run all weekend, bringing flight demonstrations and aircraft displays to the base.
The event is held every two years, and organizers say this year’s show reflects two years of planning aimed at improving everything from logistics to the visitor experience.
“There’s so much that goes into it, right from traffic flow to what’s your parking plan, to making sure that all the different acts and all the static displays are all organized correctly. Security is a big piece of all this as well,” MCAS Cherry Point Base Commander Tim Drieslein said.
On Saturday, gates open at 8 a.m., and organizers are urging attendees to arrive as early as possible.
“They’re going to see a flight demonstration of six F-18 E and F Super Hornets. We start out in our diamond and solo formations. So the diamond and our four-ship formations do a little bit together. The solos will do a little bit more. And then we all come together at the end and do a delta formation,” Drieslein said.
