DURHAM, NC (WPTF) — Durham County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services investigators are seeking to identify a person of interest in a suspected case of animal cruelty.
Just before 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, a deputy from the Animal Services division responded to a business in the 2000 block of Chapel Hill Rd after workers found a dog trapped in a dumpster on the property. The tan pit bull mix was discovered as workers, hearing an approaching collection truck, went outside with additional garbage before the truck arrived. Upon seeing the animal inside, they waved the truck off and called for assistance. The responding deputy was able to safely pull the dog from the container.
After viewing security footage provided by the business, the deputy observed a person of interest on the video and is attempting to identify the individual seen below. He is described as a black male wearing dark pants and an orange shirt. The man was last seen leaving the property toward House St just after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Part of the duties of the Animal Services division is accepting animal surrenders from residents. Animal Services deputies and animal control officers will pick up a pet that is ill or that a resident can no longer keep. There is no reason for anyone to throw a pet away or abandon them in any manner.
