Grants are being offered for large animal health veterinary practices to help combat shortages of large animal vets in the state. Eleven practices were recently awarded over $11,000 in grants as part of the program. The deadline to apply for the latest grant cycle is Aug. 31.
The application period is open through Aug. 31 for grants for large animal health veterinary practices. The grants are intended to support these specialized practices and combat the shortage of large animal vets in the state. Eleven practices across the state recently were awarded grants through the program.
- Eleven grants were recently awarded to large animal veterinary practices across the state in an effort to support these specialized practices and combat a shortage of large animal vets in the state.
- In addition, the application period is open through Aug. 31 for the next funding cycle and large animal veterinary practices in 70 designated counties with populations of 100,000 or fewer are encouraged to apply.
- To be eligible, the practice or veterinarian must be in one of those 70 counties and spend 30% or more of their patient care involved with large animals.
- Grant recipients this year were from Taylorsville, Snow Camp, Franklin, Vale, Enfield, Supply, Apex, Stony Point, Cleveland and Nebo.
- We are not the only state dealing with a shortage of large animal vets. In many areas of the state, there may only be one large animal vet option within 100 miles.
- That’s a considerable distance, especially in the event of an animal emergency.
- The General Assembly created this grant program in 2023 and it is administered by the N.C. Ag Finance Authority.
- Grants can be used for repayment of education loans related to the recipient’s vet degree, for facility renovations, to purchase supplies, equipment or technology for use in the practice and other uses determined by the advisory committee. So, there are a lot of options for how large animal vets can use these funds.
